The End Times, The Millennium, Then More Judgments

The Millennium means a thousand years, standing for the doctrine of a future time period of righteous government upon the Earth, to last a 1000 years.

Jewish writers throughout the Talmud hold that this Millennium will be chiefly characterized by the deliverance of the Jews from all their enemies, recovery of Palestine and the literal reign of their Messiah in unequaled splendor.

Pre-millennial Christians hold much in common with the Jews, but also that the Lord Jesus Christ IS the Messiah; and that He shall return to the Earth and overthrow Satan, all ungodly government and lawlessness, and establish a Kingdom of righteousness, with Himself as Sovereign. Jerusalem shall be established as the capital of His Kingdom, where regathered and converted Israel and ALL nations shall gather in a universal, world-wide kingdom of just, pure and righteous government.

Post-millennialists, believe that the present preaching of the Gospel will result in the conversion of the world and usher in a golden era of righteousness and a government of justice and peace to last a thousand years, after which the Lord will return for a "general judgment" and introduction of an eternal state. It is well to have these distinctive views of the Millennium clearly in mind.

Completely opposing the post-millennial view, is the literal reign of Christ, with His saints, for a thousand years that is plainly stated in the twentieth chapter of Revelation. Six times is the expression "A thousand years," repeated (Rev.20:2,3,4,5,6.7). The teaching is very plain that "wayfairing men shall not err therein" (Isaiah 35:8).

Those who oppose this "blessed hope" (Tit.2:13) of the pre-millennial coming of our Lord usually begin their arguments by saying that the doctrine of the Millennium is not taught in Scripture except in this 20th chapter of Revelation, and that the symbolical characteristics of this Book forbids us to base any doctrine on it. The fact is that the Jews had fully developed the doctrine of the Millennium as the teaching of the Old Testament Scriptures long before the Book of Revelation or any portion of the New Testament was written. It was the view most frequently expressed in the Talmud that "the Messianic kingdom would last for one thousand years," and this was commonly believed among the Jews.

I believe the coming of Christ to be premillennial for the following reasons:

*****1. Because of certain facts and conditions that Jesus and His Apostles taught would prevail until He comes.

Jesus taught that we would be cross bearers in this world. Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. There is NO spiritual likeness between a regenerated child of God and the world. A TRUE child of God is conscious of an inner condition of sin, thus another cross, this condition lasting until the end.

Jesus also taught that His children would be hated by the world. John 15:18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

Jesus said that God’s children shall have tribulation in the world. John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

Jesus also said that God’s children will be persecuted vilely in the world. Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.
2 Cor. 4:17-18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (KJV)

Jesus revealed that there would be divisions in the world because of Him and His doctrines. Luke 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (KJV)
Luke 12:51-53 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

*****2. I believe the coming of Christ to be premillennial because He will come to the earth in wrath and judgment.

IF the whole world were saved, Jesus would NOT come to take vengeance and pour out His wrath upon it. But since the world will abound in iniquity and sin, the Lord will come and execute His righteous judgment upon it. Jude 1:14-15 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. (KJV)

In the 25th chapter of Matthew we also learn that all the world will not be saved when Jesus comes, for all the nations are gathered before Him, and He separates them as a shepherd divideth his flocks, and the sheep are placed at His right hand, and the goats at His left hand. Matthew 25:32-33 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

Also consider: 2 Thes. 1:7-9 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (KJV) . . . We
see that Jesus will come the second time for judgment, which could NOT be true if all the world were saved when He comes. This is conclusive proof of the premillennial coming of Christ.

*****3. The fact that Christ will come AFTER the great tribulation is another reason that I believe in the premillennial coming of Christ.

We learn from the Bible that His coming will be immediately "after the tribulation of those days" and since the Tribulation is BEFORE the introduction of the glorious reign of Christ . . . Christ’s Coming has to be premillennial. The coming of Christ will put an end to all those troublous times. Isaiah 24:16-23 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. 17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. 18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. 19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. 20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. 21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. 22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited. 23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

*****4. The increasing intensity of wickedness until the end PROVES the Second Coming of Christ to be premillennial.

Jesus tells us that in the day of His Coming, the moral conditions of the world would be like that of Noah’s day. Surely NO one thinks the moral condition of Noah’s time was good. There was only one righteous family living, and the way it seems today, that we are speeding to that number at His Second Coming. The world at that time was in a serious state of wickedness, sin and pollution, and it will be like that when Jesus comes again. In such an immoral and wicked state as that, there could be absolutely NO righteous reign. That condition could NOT be that of a converted world, thus the Coming of Christ will be premillennial.The Coming of Christ will usher in a 1000 year period of righteous rule which we call the Millennium. Matthew 24:37-39 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.
Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.
Mark 7:21-23 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.
Ephesians 2:1-3 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (KJV)

*****5. A Jewish Remnant is to be saved BEFORE the Millennium is ushered in.

This remnant will not be saved BEFORE the Coming of Christ, but in immediate connection with His coming. The fact was typified by the conversion of Saul of Tarsus. 1 Cor. 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. (KJV) . . . so, Paul regards his conversion as before due time nationally. Just as the appearance of Christ to Paul brought conviction, repentance and conversion to Paul, so will His appearance the Second Time bring repentance and conversion to this Jewish remnant.

*****6. Before the Millennium is ushered in, the tares will be separated from the wheat.

Matthew 13:24-30 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.
Matthew 13:36-43 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words . . . When the servants asked if they should gather up the tares they were told to let the tares grow. Jesus, in His interpretation, informs us that the tares are the children of the age, and the reapers are the angels. So when Jesus comes, the wicked shsll be separated from the good. This proves the coming of Christ to be premillennial.

*****7. The symbolical Beast of Revelation with the Woman drunk with the blood of saints will exist and persecute God’s elect till Jesus comes.

The Beast symbolizes the ten kingdoms of western Europe; the woman symbolizes Roman Catholic hierarchy. The woman riding on the back of the beast symbolizes the power and influence the pope of Rome exercises over these kingdoms in using them as agents in the terrible persecutions of the TRUE church. This proves the coming of Christ to be premillennial for if the world were converted when Jesus comes, there would be NO vicious beast to inflict persecution.

*****8. The whole house of Israel is to be restored, and the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah are to be reunited BEFORE the Millennium.

This is plainly shown in Ezekiel 37 by the vision of the "valley of dry bones," and the "sign of the two sticks." God announces the restoration in: Ezekiel 36:24-38 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. 25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. 28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you. 30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. 31 Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. 32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel. 33 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. 34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. 35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. 36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it. 37 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. 38 As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD. (KJV)

In the following, He gives the method of its accomplishment.Ezekiel 37:12-14 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, 14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD. (KJV)

The bones represent the whole house of Israel who shall be living at that time. The graves represent the nations in which they shall be dwelling. The Lord shall first bring them into their own land, then they shall be converted and filled with the Spirit, verses 13 and 14. Then the two sticks (tribes) are united into one nation. Ezekiel 37:19-21 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand. 20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes. 21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: (KJV)
God's purpose is fully outlined for them. Ezekiel 37:21-28 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: 22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all: 23 Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God. 24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. 25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever. 26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. 27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 28 And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore. (KJV) . . . Verse 28 indicates a marked degree of knowledge of God among the Gentiles.

Acts 15:16-17 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. *****9. Antichrist will appear and reign until destroyed by the brightness of the Lord’s appearing.

2 Thes. 2:1-11 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (KJV)

Daniel 7:21-28 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; 22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom. 23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. 26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. 27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. 28 Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart. (KJV) . . . The Antichrist is to speak great swelling words against the Most High and is to wear out the saints, but when Christ comes and the judgment is set, his dominion shall be taken away.

There could be NO Millennium during the reign of Antichrist and since he reigns until he is destroyed by the "brightness of His coming," the coming of Christ must be premillennial.

*****10. The resurrection of the righteous will take place BEFORE the Millennium.

Since the righteous are to reign with Christ and many of them will be sleeping in the earth when Jesus comes, their resurrection will necessarily take place BEFORE the Millennium. Revelation 20:4 tells us that we shall "reign with Christ a thousand years." Some do not accept this Scripture as literal or rather do not accept the literal meaning of it, but regard it as symbolic. There is NOTHING in it to suggest a symbol! It is a plain declaration that the resurrection of the just will PRECEDE that of the unjust by a thousand years. Paul tells us that "the dead in Christ shall rise first." Since the just are not raised until Christ raises them at His Coming at the Rapture, they are raised BEFORE the 1000 year reign, it should be concluded that the Coming of Christ will be premillennial.

*****11. The devil will be bound BEFORE the Millennium.

There can be NO reign of peace and righteousness as long as the devil has control as he has in the world today. Revelation 20:1-3 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (KJV) . . . We are told that the devil will be bound and cast into the bottomless pit that he should not deceive the nations till the thousand years were finished. When the devil is bound and cast into outer darkness, utterly removed from the Earth, THEN there can be a reign of righteousness in the Earth. But the FACT that there can be NO Millennium while Satan is loose . . . and the FACT that he is to be bound by Christ at His Coming proves Christ’s Coming to be premillennial.

Wickedness all around us! Wickedness is worsening continually, just as it did in the days before the Flood!
