God's Judgments, Come from His Holy Character
Exodus 7:4-5 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. (KJV) . . . The series of terrible judgments with which Egypt was about to be scourged would fully reveal the supremacy of Israel's God.
Numbers 16:28-34 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.
30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. (KJV) . . . The earth swallowing up the ungodly rebels alive, as precisely predicted by Moses, gave the divine testimony to the mission of Moses and struck the spectators with solemn fear.
Numbers 25:9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand. (KJV) . . . Because Israel committed whoredom with the daughters of Moab, and offered sacrifices to Baal, and bowed down to their gods, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against Israel. 24,000 were killed in the plague.
Numbers 33:4 For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed judgments. (KJV) . . . This to me reveals the power and wisdom of God. It is amazing that just the first-born (of man and beast) were killed by the Lord, while all other Egyptians were spared, and not one Israelite was killed (Ex.12:29-30).
Deuteronomy 11:4 And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day; (KJV) . . . The water of the sea was separated by God so that Israel could travel across its bed on dry land. When Israel passed through, the waters went back to normal and drowned the Egyptians (Ex.14:21-31).
Deuteronomy 28:49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand; (KJV) . . . When God inflicts His wrath, terrible miseries ensue, then and now! Yet these are just the beginning of sorrows to those under the curse of God. Consider the torments of eternity, where their worm dieth not, and their fire is not quenched! The wrath of God, came and remains upon Israel for their sins. A people for so long the apple of His Eye (Deut.32:10; Ps.17:8; Pro.7:2), cast off and scattered, yet they stay a people distinct, and not mixed with others. They have been plucked from off the land (Deut.28:63) not only by the Babylonian captivity, and when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans; and afterwards, when they were forbidden to set foot in Jerusalem. They have no rest of body or mind (Deut.28:65), but better times are ahead in the future when they finally accept Jesus as their Messiah.
Joshua 10:11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. (KJV) . . . Huge hailstones were cast down from God to destroy the Canaanites, and not the Israelites. Israel historian Josephus affirms that thunder and lightning were mixed with the hail, which seems quite probable from Hab.3:11.
2 Kings 6:15-18 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. (KJV) . . . When the Syrian army surrounded the place by night, to capture the prophet, Elisha, his newly acquired servant was paralyzed with fear. This new servant had only been with him since Gehazi's dismissal and had little or no experience of his master's powers. His faith was shaken by this incident. Smite this people with blindness, Elisha prayed . . . so they could not follow him, or recognize him to be the object of their search, similar to Gen.19:11. The Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see . . . and the servant aw the invisible guard of angels that encompassed and defended them (Ps.34:7). The opening of the eyes, which Elisha prayed for, were those of the Spirit, NOT of the body. The eye of faith sees the reality of the Divine Presence and protection where all is vacancy or darkness to the ordinary eye. The horses and chariots were symbols of the God's Divine power (2 Ki.2:12) and their fiery nature symbolizes their supernatural ability. Fire is one of the most appropriate symbols of the Godhead.
2 Kings 19:32-34 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
33 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. (KJV) . . . In the morning, there were 185,000 dead corpses . . . a miraculous interposition of the Almighty that defended Jerusalem. The destruction was during the night; the officers and soldiers, being in full security, were negligent; their discipline was relaxed; the camp guards were not alert, or perhaps they themselves were the first to be killed. This should be a lesson for us! Jesus tells us to "watch" so we should be on guard at all times, for we know not when He shall come (Mat.25:13). Anyone who does not watch, and live accordingly, shall be subject to the wrath of God in the Great Tribulation Period. You do NOT want to go there!!!
1 Chronicles 16:12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; (KJV) . . . The whole psalm refers to God's wondrous and amazing actions among the nations in behalf of His people Israel. WHY do people forget, turn away from and disobey God? Both Israel and Christians are guilty.
Isaiah 5:25 Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. (KJV) . . . We are drawn to sin not only by the allurements of the world, or by the persuasions of wicked men, but are active in drawing sin to ourselves. To be puffed up with an opinion of our own wisdom, despise the counsels and instructions of God by his prophets, is an error indeed. Many today drink far too much. Courts today justify the wicked for a bribe. People cast away their regard for Almighty God . . . disobedience plus contempt for Him. No wonder He was furious then . . . and NOW! The hills trembled then (Isa. 64:1-2; Jer. 4:24-25) and it seems they are trembling in today's world too because of God's wrath. The natural disasters that are taking place are becoming more frequent and intense, just as the birth pangs of a woman in labor. God's Hand was ready to give Israel yet another and more painful blow . . . and His wrath today is reaching the boiling point for America and the world. If people do not repent, it is just the beginning of sorrows, just a taste, a beginning of further and greater calamities.
Isaiah 28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. (KJV) . . . The plumb-line, was not only used in erecting buildings, but also in tearing them down. God would not overlook Israel's sin (Am.7:7-8), and He will NOT overlook ours. The hail and the waters refer to His judgments, which often in Scripture are compared to a storm of hail or rain. Consider His judgments of natural disasters in today's world. The foolish media never once refer to them as judgments of God's wrath.
Jeremiah 23:19-20 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. 20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly. (KJV) . . . A tornado is a severe judgment of God, that brings sudden and utter destruction (Jer.30:23-24). It is called a whirlwind of the Lord, meaning the greatness of it, as in Psalm 36:6, or to let people know that the judgment came from God . . . that He sent it! This whirlwind would fall upon wicked men, so as they should have no peace, but evil should come upon them. It is called a continuing whirlwind in Jer.30:23. Jeremiah speaks of God's judgment as of a messenger, which coming from God, should not return till it had performed its task. People flatter themselves that they will either outride or outlive the storms of Divine vengeance. No way, my friend! The anger of the Lord shall bring to pass whatsoever the just and right will of God is. Even though people then and NOW, would not/will not believe God, but flatter themselves with idle, vain hopes, God always wins! Don't wait until it's too late to repent of your sin.
Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. (KJV) . . . This is yet in the future, the not too distant future in my opinion. Nuclear bombs??
Malachi 3:5-6 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. (KJV) . . . What wickedness God shall judge! Sorcery was forbidden, God hates the sin and those who practice it (Deut.18:10-14). Anyone who professes to be children of God, and consult with the devil brings about the wrath of God down upon them! Israel learned it from the Egyptians and from the Chaldeans during the captivity. Adultery was transgressing the law of nature and of God (Ex.20:14; Deut.5:18; 22:22), and back then, were by the law to die for it. False swearers; perjury, liars, (Zec.5:3-4). God hated/hates this sin (Zec.8:17). Those that oppress employees in his wages; either detaining it, or lessening it (Jer.22:13; Jam.5:4). Widows should be helped (Deut.24:19-21), NOT oppressed (Isa.1:17), also the fatherless (Ps.82:1-4). Pervert judgment, or twist the law, or admit false witness against a stranger. Not doing right is wrong. And last but not least, having NO fear of God, NO reverence, NO respect! I am the Lord, I change not . . . The new, modern churches of today permit and tolerate much sin, even from those who stand in the pulpits! BEWARE!!
Judgments From the New Testament
Luke 1:20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. (KJV) . . . This was both a sign and a judgment from God . . . a sign that the angel Gabriel had come from God, and that the prophecy that he spoke would be fulfilled. It was a judgment from God for not believing what he had said. Unbelief in God's eyes is not tolerated, then or NOW! Dumbness usually comes from a natural imperfection or debility of the organs of speech; but in this case there was NO natural weakness or unfitness. Silence was imposed upon Zacharias by the Lord, and he would not be able to break it, until the power that had silenced him gives him permission to speak again! Nothing is impossible with God!
Acts 5:5-6 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. (KJV) . . . The sin of Ananias was no small thing, or else God would not have brought about such a devastating punishment. His guilt was known; and Peter charged him with the huge crime of trying to deceive God. Ananias had not expected to be exposed in such a manner. The charge came upon him unexpectedly and the judgment od God came down like a bolt of lightening. Can we learn a lesson from this? Yes! Lying to God and trying to deceive Him is impossible! He even knows our thoughts (Eze.11:5).
Acts 5:9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. (KJV) . . . Husband and wife conspired together to lie and deceive. Sapphira was just as guilty as her husband in the eyes of God, and she received the same judgment: immediate death!
Acts 12:22-24 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24 But the word of God grew and multiplied. (KJV) . . . His death was a judgment from God, because he did not give God the glory, nor did he rebuke the people, but permitted them to give him that honor that was due to God alone. Jewish historian, Josephus says: Because he did neither rebuke them, [the people,] nor reject their impious flattery, a severe pain arose in his belly, and began in a most violent manner. And when he was quite worn out by the pain in his belly for five days, he departed this life, in the fifty-fourth year of his age, and the seventh of his reign. God has MANY kinds of punishment!
2 Peter 2:4-10 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. (KJV) . . . If God in the past has punished the ungodly and saved His people, He will be sure to do so also in our days.
Judgments in Revelation
There are three sets of God's prophetic judgments on Israel and the world in the Book of Revelation. These all are yet to come, in the future:
- The Seals (Rev.6:1-8:5) The 7th Seal is the 7 Trumpets
- The Trumpets (Rev.8:6-15:1) The 7th Trumpet is the 7 Vials.
- The Vials (Rev.16:1-19:21
Revelation 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. (KJV) . . . This was similar to the 9th plague of Egypt (Ex.9:18-24). This is prophecy yet to happen.
Revelation 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. (KJV) . . . These will be the Vial judgments of God.
Revelation 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. (KJV) . . . Each set of 7 judgments worsen.
Revelation 16:7-8 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. 8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. (KJV) . . . God is SO patient with people! But, His wrath will one day come to a head and explode!
Revelation 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. (KJV) . . . I am so glad that I will not be on Earth to witness this catastrophe (Rev.3:10).
Revelation 17:1-2 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. (KJV) . . . This prophecy is rapidly coming to a head. The great whore is the one world church made up of ALL denominations in the world . . . except TRUE Christians. Evangelicals and Catholicism are pushing for this movement. There is NO way that ALL religions can join together in harmony! Some one, some where, will have to compromise . . . and compromise will NOT be tolerated by Almighty God!
Revelation 19:2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. (KJV) . . . ALL the calamities that come upon this religious power are deserved. ALL God's judgments are deserved by the wicked. The wrath of God is ALWAYS right and just! And when God makes a Promise, be it to the righteous with a blessing OR to the wicked and unbelieving with a terrible judgment, God is right in doing so. God NEVER makes a mistake! He keeps His Promises! God CANNOT lie!
