The WRATH of GOD
God’s wrath comes about because God’s holiness and love have been violated by the wickedness of man. Human beings who live their lives apart from God are really antagonistic toward God and hateful of His way. This actually means people living in such estrangement are actually the enemies of God (Rom.5:10). Since God is everything good and pure and right, and mankind goes against all that is good, God's wrath is roused. God's holy opposition to sin of every kind is called “God’s wrath.”
God is completely sinless. He is a perfectly Holy Being by nature. If He did not oppose sin in man, He would not be God. If He was not wrathful and hated sin, God would then, in effect, be saying that sin is not evil and that it was OK. That would be an utter lie, because sin is evil, sin is wrong. God CANNOT lie. He CANNOT be untrue to His essential Being, which is Holy, righteous and loving. If God tolerated sin in any respect, and not not have an outright wrath against it, He would not be Holy. Sin causes human suffering and God finds it unacceptable!
God is absolutely Holy and just and righteous. He is pure Love. Because of this, He CANNOT tolerate sin, because it actually violates Who and What He is. So, it is impossible for our Perfect God not to have “wrath” toward sin, any sin! God’s wrath is a just judgment . . . a necessary judgment that is brought about by sinful man against a Holy God (Rom.1:18-26).
BUT, since God is absolute Love, He has already taken the necessary actions in order to put a stop to the hostility and hate He rightfully has toward sinful mankind. These actions flow out of His love, which is the core of His Being. 1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (KJV)
God reveals His love to us in that He continues to allow us to choose . . . His way OR our way! He gives us this free choice. People sin against God and hate His way, which is actually hating God Himself!
God has revealed His love by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus . . . Who is true God of true God . . . to pay the penalty of OUR sin and put an end to our being bound by sin. 1 John 4:9-10 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (KJV)
God gave us the Best that He had, His beloved Son! When anyone turns down the only Way to make us God's friend (Rom.5:1-10), and rejects Jesus . . . God becomes furious! And He has that absolute right! That rejection leads to God's wrath, that wrath leads to judgment, that judgment leads to the Lake of Fire. Unless a sinner repents (1 John 1:8-9) and believes God (1 John 5:10-12), the lake of Fire is their eternal destination. SO. . . God does NOT willingly send anyone to Hell . . . they do it their self.
To accept Jesus, and God’s forgiveness, is admitting that we have been sinners in hateful opposition to God. When you “accept” Christ, and His Work on the cross, you are forgiven by God the Father. Your sin and estrangement from God is GONE. Only Jesus can make you God's friend (Rom.5:1-10). When we accept Christ by our faith in Him and His redemptive Work, we are reconciled to God. We are transformed into a new creature, a child of God (John 1:12; 3:3-8) and eternal life is given to us! Eternal life is a GIFT! (Rom.6:23; Eph.2:8). Eternal Life is FREE!
Ephesians 2:1-10 describes our transformation from being objects of God’s wrath to becoming His child and receiving salvation by His grace.
God’s purpose from the beginning to express his love toward humans in the forgiveness of the world’s sin through the work of Jesus.
Ephesians 1:3-7 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; [KJV] . . . He hath chosen us in him (Christ) before the foundation of the world. This is just one of the many things I cannot comprehend! God KNEW before the foundation of the world who would accept His Son, and who would not accept Him. I can only go to His Word to even come close to understanding!
Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. (KJV)
Isaiah 46:9-10 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (KJV)
Those who are “in Christ” are no longer objects of wrath, but dwell in the peace of God. Those who are “in Christ” (Rom.8:9-11) are saved from wrath through the redemptive Work of Jesus, and in the indwelling Holy Spirit, who transforms us. They are now at peace with God and no longer His enemies.
Reconciliation involves turning TO God and turning AWAY from everything that is an idol in your life.
1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (KJV)
Salvation is God’s rescue Plan!
1 Thes. 1:9-10 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. (KJV) . . . ONLY Jesus can deliver you from the wrath to come! The wrath to come in my opinion is two things: #1 God's wrath in the Great Tribulation and #2 God's wrath on Judgment Day.
This is another verse on our being delivered from the wrath to come.
Rev. 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. (KJV) . . . Jesus' Words! Jesus IS God! God CANNOT lie! Our Lord is speaking of the Great Tribulation here. God's TRUE children will be kept from the hour of temptation, they will be removed from the Earth before the Tribulation, at the Rapture (1 thes 4:13-18).
Another verse of comfort to the righteous.
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (KJV) . . . Again Jesus speaking! IF we believe on Jesus, Whom God the Father has sent, we HAVE eternal life!
When considering “God’s wrath,” it is important to see how God purposes to eliminate it. We thank God that His wrath disappears when sin is conquered and destroyed in our life. God no longer condemns us.
John 3:15-18 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (KJV) . . . He (whosoever, you, me) that believeth on Him (Jesus) is NOT condemned (judged to Hell). If we use common sense, we can SEE and understand WHY God is furious when anyone rejects Jesus! We can SEE that God's wrath is right! God does NOT want to condemn us! BUT if you do not believe on Jesus, you are condemned already. It all rests on YOU! Do you believe on Jesus? Or are you already condemned to the Lake of Fire because you refuse to believe God? Oh! PLEASE consider my words. God will absolutely condemn you to Hell if you do not believe on Jesus.
