False Catholic Doctrine

Catholics teach a gospel of meterious works, completely opposite of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to God’s Holy Word, anything that is added to Christ’s finished Work on the cross is a denial of the Gospel of Christ. It is “another gospel”.

A list of HERESIES that were adopted and preserved by the Roman Catholic Church in the course of 1,600 years.

Some dates are approximate. Many of these heresies had been current in the church years before, but only when they were officially adopted by a Church Council and proclaimed by the pope as doctrine of faith did they become binding on Catholics. NO man anywhere can INVENT doctrine to the glory of God!

At the Reformation in the sixteenth century these heresies were rejected as having no part in the religion of Jesus as taught in the New Testament.
#1. The oldest human inventions taught and practiced by the Roman Catholic Church, which DISAGREE with the Bible are: a. prayers for the dead and b. the sign of the cross. Both of these began 300 years AFTER Christ ascended into Heaven.
#2. Wax candles were introduced in churches about 320 A.D.
#3. Veneration (worship) of angels and dead saints began about 375 A.D.
#4. The daily Mass as a daily was adopted in 394 A.D.
#5. The worship of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus and use of the blasphemous term "Mother of God" as applied to her, originated about 381 A.D., but was first decreed in the Council of Ephesus in 431 A.D.
#6. The damnable doctrine of purgatory was first established by Gregory the Great about the year 593 A.D.
#7 . The Bible teaches that we pray ONLY to God. In the primitive church never were prayers directed to Mary or to dead saints. This appalling practice began in the Roman Church about 600 years AFTER Christ.
#8. The papacy is of PAGAN origin. The title of pope, or universal bishop, was first given to the bishop of Rome about 600 A.D. Jesus absolutely did NOT appoint Peter to the headship of the apostles and expressly forbid any such idea (Lk.22:24-26; Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18; 1 Cor. 3:11)
#9. The kissing of the pope's feet began in the year 709 A.D. It had been a PAGAN custom to kiss the feet of emperors. The Word of God absolutely FORBIDS this (Acts 10:25-26; Rev.19:10; 22:9).
#10. The power of the popes began in the year 750 A.D. Jesus expressly FORBID such a thing and He Himself refused worldly kingship (Mat.4:8-9; 20:25-26; Jn.18:36).
#11. Idolatrous worship of the cross, images, and relics was authorized in 787 A.D. This practice is called IDOLATRY in the Bible, and is severely condemned (Ex. 0:2-6; Deut.27:15; Ps.115).
#12. Holy water (water mixed with a pinch of salt) and blessed by the priest, was authorized in the year 850 A.D. NOWHERE in the Bible is there anything like this!
#13. The worship of St. Joseph began in the year 890 A.D. This is a no-no! Praying to the dead is strictly forbidden in the Bible. Deut.18:12 tells us that anyone who consults with the dead is “an abomination to the Lord.” (Prayer IS consulting).
Consider the characteristics of God: God is omnipresent . . . He is everywhere at the same time! He is capable of hearing EVERY prayer in ALL the world (Ps.139:7-12). NO human being can ever possess this attribute. And, God is the ONLY One with the power to answer prayer, because God is omnipotent . . . all powerful (Rev.19:6). This is an attribute that NO human being . . . alive or dead . . . can ever possess. And God is omniscient . . . He knows everything (Ps.147:4-5). Even before we pray, God knows our genuine needs and knows them better than we do. Not only does He know our needs, but He answers our prayers according to His perfect will. NO human . . . dead or alive can do that!
Therefore, in order for a DEAD person to accept prayers, that dead individual MUST first hear the prayer, then possess the power to answer it, AND know HOW to answer it in a way that is best for the person praying. ONLY God can hear and answer prayer, because of His perfect spirit.
#14. Canonization of dead saints, first by pope John XV in 995 A.D. My friend, EVERY believer and follower of Christ is called "saint" in the Bible, over 100 times! All children of God (born again Christians Jn.1:12-13;3:) are called saints in the Bible.
#15. The Mass was developed gradually as a sacrifice and attendance made compulsory in the eleventh century. The Biblical Gospel teaches that the Sacrifice of Christ was offered once and for all, and is NOT to be repeated, but only remembered in the Lord's Supper (Heb. 7:27; 9:26-28; 10:10-14).
#16. The celibacy of the priesthood was decreed by pope Hildebrand and Boniface VII in the year 1079 A.D. Jesus NEVER imposed such a rule, neither did any of the apostles. On the contrary, Peter was a married man (Mat.8:14-15), and Paul says that bishops were to have a wife and children (1 Tim. 3:2-5).
#17. The rosary, or prayer beads, was introduced by Peter the Hermit in the year 1090 A.D. This was copied from Hindus and Mohammedans. The counting of prayers is a PAGAN practice and is clearly condemned by Christ (Mat.6:5-7).
#18. The sale of indulgences (purchase of forgiveness and a permit to indulge in sin), began in the year 1190 A.D. The Biblical Gospel condemns this.
#19. The doctrine of transubstantiation was decreed by pope Innocent III in the year 1215 A.D. This doctrine by the priest pretends to perform a daily miracle by changing a wafer into the body of Christ, and then he pretends to eat Him alive in the presence of his people during Mass. The Gospel condemns such ridiculousness. The Holy Communion is simply a memorial of the Sacrifice of Christ (Lk.22:19-20; Jn. 6:35; 1 Cor.11:26).
#20. Confession of sins to the priest at least once a year was founded by pope Innocent III in the Lateran Council, in the year 1215 A.D. The Gospel commands us to confess our sins directly to God (Ps.51; Isa.1:18; Lk.7:48; 15:21; 1 Jn.1:8-9).
#21. The esteem of the wafer (host) was invented by pope Honorius in 1220 A.D. So the truth is, the Roman Church worships a god made by hands. This is pure idolatry and is absolutely contrary to the spirit of the Gospel (Jn.4:24).
#22. The Bible was forbidden to laymen and placed in the index of forbidden books by the Council of Toledo in 1229 A.D. This absolutely opposes what Jesus and Paul commanded . . . that the Scriptures should be read by all (Jn.5:39; 2 Tim.2:15; 3:15-17).
#23. The scapular was invented by Simon Stock, an English monk, in 1287 A.D. It is a piece of brown cloth, with the picture of the virgin and supposed to contain supernatural virtue to protect from all dangers those who wear it on naked skin. This is fetishism, which is designating essential value or powers to an object. This is a SIN!
#24. The Roman Church forbid the cup to the laity, by instituting the communion of one kind in the Council of Constance in 1414 A.D. The Gospel commands us to celebrate Holy Communion with bread and wine (Mat 26:27; 1 Cor.11:26-29).
#25. The doctrine of purgatory was proclaimed as a dogma of faith by the Council of Florence in 1439 A.D. There is NOT one word in the Bible that teaches the purgatory doctrine that the priests teach. The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sins, (Jn. 5:24; Rom.8:1; 1 Jn.1:7-9; 2:1-2). Absent from the body, present with the Lord (2 Cor.5:6,8). NO purgatory!
#26. The doctrine of Seven Sacraments was affirmed in 1439 A.D. The Biblical Gospel says that Christ instituted just two sacraments, baptism and the Lord's Supper (Mat.28:19-20; 26:26-28).
#27. The Council of Trent held in the year 1545 declared that tradition is of equal authority with the Bible. Tradition = human teachings. The Pharisees believed the same way, and Jesus bitterly condemned them, for by human tradition they nullified the commandments of God (Mk. 7:7-13; Col. 2:8; Rev. 22:18).
#28. The apocryphal books were added to the Bible also by the Council of Trent in 1545. BEWARE!!! (Rev. 22:18-19).
#29. The immaculate conception of the virgin Mary was proclaimed by pope Pius IX in the year 1854 A.D. The Gospel states that ALL people, with the sole exception of Christ, are sinners. Mary herself had need of a Saviour (Ps. 51:5; Rom.3:23; Lk. 1:46-47).
#30. In the year 1931 pope Pius XI reaffirmed the doctrine that Mary is "the Mother of God." This doctrine was first decreed by the Council of Ephesus in the year 431. This is a heresy contrary to Mary's own words (Lk.1:46-49).

What will be the NEXT invention of the Catholic Church?

They say that it never changes . . . they LIE! It keeps inventing new doctrines that are in direct opposition to the Holy Word of God! It has practiced rites and ceremonies taken exclusively from paganism. The vast majority of the rites and ceremonies of the Roman Church are of PAGAN origin.
Cardinal Newman, in his book The Development of the Christian Religion admits that . . . "Temples, incense, oil lamps, votive offerings, holy water, holidays and seasons of devotions, processions, blessing of fields, sacerdotal (priestly) vestments, the tonsure (of priests and monks and nuns) and images are all of pagan origin," page 359. Tonsure = shaving of the head or part of it as a religious rite.

The above is a list of human inventions and "abominations" disproves the claim of the priests of the Roman Church that their religion was taught by Christ and that the popes have been the faithful custodians of that religion.
The Roman Catholic Church is called the Great Whore.

Rev. 17:1-5 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine. . . . Abominations are things hateful to God: (Deut.7:25; 18:12; 25:16; 29:17; 1 Ki.14:24; 2 Ki.21:2; Pro.6:16; 11:20; 12:22; 21:27; 28;9; Jer.16:18; 44:4; Eze.7:9; 20:30; Hos.9:10Lk.16:15; Rev.17:5, 21:27)

Rev. 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine.
Rev. 19:2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine.

Fornication is referring to the Catholic Church’s forbidden practices and superstitious PAGAN ceremonies appealing to the religious nature of men which give her influence over the many peoples. She keeps people in the drunkenness of superstition and ignorance of the TRUE teachings of Christ, holding an unbelievable influence over the multitudes, who are afraid of eternal damnation without her blessing. This term not only refers to physical, but also to spiritual harlotry (Jer. 3:6-9; Eze. 16:31-33; Hos. 1:2; Rev. 2:22). This woman is the peerless harlot, "THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."
Adultery, spiritual: (Ex.34:15; Lev.17:7; 20:6; Num.14:33; 15:39; Deut.31:16; Judg.2:17; 8:27,33; 1 Chron.5:25; 2 Chron.21:11; Ps.73:27; 106:39; Isa.1:21; 57:8; Jer.2:20,23; 3:1,8,20; 11:15; 13:27; Eze.6:9; 16:25; 20:30; 23:3,11,17,3035; 43:7; Hos.1:1-2; 3:1; 4:12; 5:4; 6:10; 9:1; Mal.2:11; Mat.12:39; Jam.4:4; Rev.2:22; 14:8; 17:2; 18:3).

The Roman Catholic Church is called "the Woman"
Rev.17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: . . . Emphasis mine.
Rev. 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine.

This identifies her with the Roman Church, Rev. 17:3-4. This usage is closely akin to "the great whore" above, so needs no special comment.

The Roman Catholic Church is called "That Great City"

Rev. 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine.

The Holy Word of God gives three titles for the Catholic Church: the whore, the woman and here that great city. This brings out a different point of truth about her, by emphasizing her identification. It is her headquarters from which she rules many kings and nations. This verse literally states: And the woman whom thou sawest is the great city, which really is a kingdom all its own, ruling over the kings of the earth. This clearly shows that she is NOT a political power, but a system whose kingdom DOMINATES the political kingdoms of the Earth, and the place of her headquarters. WHERE is it? Which city is it?

Rev. 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. (KJV) . . . “The seven heads are seven mountains.” . . . Which well-known city in the world, sits (is built) on 7 mountains? None other than Rome! Rome is where the “woman” (the harlot church) sits, and manipulates the religions of the world. Does this sound logical to you? It does to me. ROME is the home of the Catholic Church! Even a blind man can SEE that!

There is only one city that can possibly fulfill these details and that is Rome, the seat of the whore. The Roman Church claims to be the kingdom of Christ on Earth with power to rule the wills of men and dictate to kings of the Earth. Cardinal Manning, in his work entitled The Temporal Power of the Vicar of Jesus Christ, says, "It is a kingdom, it has a legislature; the line of its councils for eighteen hundred years has sat, deliberated, and decreed with all the solemnity and the majesty of an imperial parliament. It has an executive which carries out and enforces the decrees of those councils with all calmness and all preemptory decision of an Imperial will. The Church of God (Roman), therefore, is an empire within an empire; and the governors and princes of this world are jealous for that reason . . . Thus he (pope) is in himself a personal sovereign, and can be subject to none . . . a divine authority over all other powers . . . the whole world is in his hands . . . to enforce, obedience to the faith . . . to judge . . . nations and their princes." Pages 48-50, 124-126, 155-156, 181-182.

My dear friend . . . the pope is just a sinful man, and he DOES have Someone over him, whether he admits it or not! He . . . ALL popes . . . shall one day stand before the Throne of Almighty God to be judged . . . just like you and me. Judge Jesus shall be asking some mighty pertinent questions. According to what the Bible says, they will have MUCH to answer to! NONE of it good.

This next Passage is for the purpose of showing the apostle John "the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters." The very ones whom The Catholic Church has kept in delusional superstition, shall turn on her and destroy her. They shall leave her and unite with Antichrist, the “beast” and his cause. . . . Emphasis mine.

Rev. 17:14-18 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. (KJV)

Do NOT be deceived! DO NOT let the Catholic religion lead you to eternal damnation in Hell!

Rev. 3:1-22 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. . . . Emphasis mine.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. . . . Emphasis mine.
13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. . . . Emphasis mine.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.(KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

WHO is it that overcomes?

1 John 5:1-5 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (KJV)
Overcoming: (Jn.16:33; 1 Jn.2:13-17; 4:4; 5:1,4-5; Rom.8:35-38; 1 Cor.15:57, Rev.2:7,11,17,26; 3:5,12;21; 12:11; 15:2; 21:7)

SUMMARY

What will be the next invention? The Roman Church says it never changes. They lie. God is the One Who never changes! They change doctrines all the time . . . inventing new doctrines which oppose the Bible . . . so, they oppose God! They practice rites and ceremonies taken from PAGANISM. I have heard it said that some scholar checked and found that 75% of the rites and ceremonies of the Roman Church are of PAGAN origin.

Note: Cardinal Newman, in his book, “The Development of the Christian Religion,” admits that ... “Temples, incense, oil lamps, votive offerings, holy water, holidays and season of devotions, processions, blessing of fields, sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure (of priests and monks and nuns), images ... are all of pagan origin...” (Page 359).
HERESIES are those doctrines and practices which are contrary to the Bible. They are also called "traditions of men" (Col.2:8) or "doctrines of men" (Mat.15:3,9). Both Peter and Paul predicted and warned that in the later times "false teachers" would rise within the Church and bring in "damnable heresies" (2 Pet.2:1) and "doctrines of devils" (1 Tim.4:1). Read 2 Peter 2:1-3, and 1 Timothy 3:2-5). Jesus rebuked the Pharisees, for they transgressed the commandments of God by keeping their traditions.
It is the humble opinion of this old woman, that the real heretics are the Roman Catholics and the true orthodox are the Evangelical Christians.

People BEWARE! The Word of God commands us to get out of Babylon. Rev.18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (KJV) . . . TRUE Christians will remain faithful to the Gospel of Christ as taught in the Holy Bible, and they will pay attention to the warning of the Apostle Paul. Gal. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. (KJV)
My friend, God has graciously given you this life on Earth to make the greatest decision of your life time . . . WHERE will you spend eternity? He has given you His Word to help you to make the right choice. I hope and pray you choose to walk the narrow road with Jesus (Mat.7:14), because it will take you to Heaven. BUT . . . IF you choose to walk the broad road with the devil, it will take you straight to Hell! BEWARE! The Catholic Church is on that broad road. Stay far away!
