"Damnable Heresies"

The Real Source of Heresy

2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (KJV)

From the Bible's point of view, a heresy is a lie. No matter how beautifully it is wrapped or how appealing it may be to our vanity, it deviates from the Truth of God that actually promotes and/or produces division in the church.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (KJV)

Lies, division and greed within the church make it VERY easy to identify the real source of heresy, for all these are characteristics of the devil. Jesus says that the devil was a murderer from the beginning, because there is NO Truth in him. When the devil and his ministers speaks, it is nearly always LIES! 2 Cor. 11:14-15 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (KJV)

The apostle John tells us: Rev. 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (KJV) . . . The main trick of Satan is DECEPTION (dishonesty, trickery).

Satan was the one who started heresies! Way back in the beautiful Garden of Eden, he deceived Eve, and he made it sound so good, that she told Adam and the end result . . . he induced them to sin by telling them: Genesis 3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (KJV)
. . . This sounds like some of Satan's evils of today! But, they believed this perversion of God's Truth, and the destructive heretical course began. They were cast from the Garden of Eden, and were separated from the personal relationship they had had with God. They did NOT live and prosper as Satan's cruel perversion led them to believe. Just the opposite happened! Satan USED them, through their innocence and desires, and through SIN they became his slaves. They died physically, just as God said they would.

Satan's attempts to deceive through false teaching have never stopped. Mark 13:22-23 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. 23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. (KJV) . . . Jesus warns that the lies of Satan and his ministers will be so convincing, that even the "elect" will have to be extra careful NOT to be deceived by false doctrines that these false prophets spout!

The source of ALL false doctrine is demonic. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (KJV)

Paul is writing of men who listen to, accept and then teach doctrines twisted from their biblical base (2 Peter 3:16). He adds another warning: 2 Cor. 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (KJV)

Way back in Leviticus 17:7, God warned through Moses that, when the Israelites sacrificed before an idol, they were really sacrificing to demons. The apostle Paul warned on this same thing! 1 Cor. 10:20-22 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? (KJV) . . . Paul was concerned about the behavior of some in the Corinthian church. But this applies to us today as well! We must NOT have fellowship with devils.

We must NOT feed ourselves spiritually with a mixture of TRUE and false doctrines. It will NOT work! We must make every possible effort to separate the TRUE food from the false IF we are to grow spiritually and qualify for the Kingdom of God! This responsibility falls on each of us personally! We cannot leave it to others! We MUST acknowledge the source of the false teaching . . . Satan, his demons and his false ministers . . . to truly understand just how serious damnable heresies can be to us! BEWARE!!!

To the astronomers of ancient Greece, the planets appeared to wander in a heaven populated by other, relatively fixed lights. It is in like manner, that evil spirits wander in our midst seducing people to wander from the TRUE path of God's Word. It is these evil spirits that are the principalities and powers against which we wrestle (Eph. 6:10-12).

Heresy is not always easily detected because Satan usually camouflages his lie with a measure of Truth. He is an absolute master of deceit. Because the world is so ignorant about God and His Word (the Bible), Satan can tell them just about anything, and they will believe it. He ever so cleverly twists the intent of a Scripture to make it into something that is easily accepted by naive, Biblically ignorant "Christians." Some times, he will appeal to our vanity to get us to react to his suggestions without even thinking.

The Bible gives only a few specific doctrines with the word "heresy" attached. No TRUE doctrine is safely set apart from demons. They will attack the people of God in ANY spiritual area. The Bible makes it very clear that Satan, his demonsand his human ministers are our major enemies, and deception that leads us into sin is their aim!
